This film was produced and directed by the legendary King Vidor and was a homage to the strength and determination of the Depression era people who had a daily struggle just to survive. The story centers on a couple, John and Mary Sims (Tom Keene and Karen Morley), who can't make a go of it in the city so they decide to leave for the country. Once their, they come across a farm and decide to try their luck there. In spite of their lack of knowledge or skills for farming, John and Mary begin their new life and recruit additional Depression victims to help with the farm, eventually turning the place into a farming commune.
